Sophomore Mark Pope was named the ACC Player of the Week by the conference today and also named as a co-winner of the National Player of the Week by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Pope picked up a victory over the visiting Maryland Terrapins on Friday, throwing his second consecutive complete game shutout. He gave up only four hits, all singles, had six strikeouts and no walks in the 1-0 Yellow Jacket win.
↵Pope (4-0) has only given up one earned run through 30.2 innings pitched so far this season for a 0.29 ERA. While only walking two hitters, he has struck out 25 and has yet to give up a single extra base hit. He has gone 25 straight innings without giving up a run.
↵The right-hander next takes the mound Friday against the visiting NC State Wolfpack at 7:00 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium.
