Atlanta Thrashers Ditching Red Alternate Jerseys For 2011-12 Season

The red Atlanta Thrashers alternate jersey, unaffectionately dubbed "the Motocross jersey" by Bird Watchers Anonymous, has made its last appearance in Blueland after three seasons on the job, the team announced Thursday. They really aren't all that ugly, but they're blamed, as all alternate jerseys of every team are, for bad luck.

Infrequent observers will be surprised to learn a team that plays in an arena nicknamed Blueland sometimes wore red jerseys, but as a sports team that plays home games in the state of Georgia, the Thrashers were legally obligated to wear red at some point. This means they're moving to Winnipeg.

The team will henceforth rock only home ice blues and road whites. The current blue home jersey was actually once the team's alternate, with the team deploying a Cosby sweater of unclear vintage as their original Philips Arena threads -- see the uni timeline at the bottom of this story.
