Janoris Jenkins is no longer a member of the Florida Gators football team, head coach Will Muschamp announced via Twitter. Jenkins recently achieved his third arrest in Gainesville, a marijuana possession charge, leading many to wonder how Muschamp would respond. The pair met earlier Tuesday.
The coach:
After meeting with Janoris Jenkins today, we both felt it was in his best interest to move ahead to the next stage of his career. We appreciate Janoris' contributions to the University of Florida during his time here and wish him the best of luck.
It's too late for Jenkins to declare for the 2011 NFL Draft, though he could put his name into the supplemental draft, if such a thing exists despite the NFL lockout. Unless "next stage of his career" is just a euphemism for "spending a month trying to get BOOM from ringing in his ears." His return to the team for his senior year was surprising, but now it looks like he won't actually be returning after all.
