Basketball Hall Of Fame Inductees 2011: Teresa Edwards Second Georgia Player Inducted

Dennis Rodman, Chris Mullin, Artis Gilmore, and Tex Winter are the biggest names on the list of 2011 Basketball Hall of Fame inductees, but one has extensive local ties: former Georgia Bulldogs star Teresa Edwards joins Dominique Wilkins as the only Dawgs to make it into Springfield.

The rest of the 2011 class: Arvydas Sabonis, Reece Tatum, Tom Sanders, Tara VanDerveer, and Herb McGee.

Edwards was a two-time All-American at UGA, taking the team to two Final Fours and seeing her No. 5 retired. The Cairo native is best known for her international balling -- a four-time Olympic gold medalist, she brought home the top prize at Olympics held nearly 20 years apart in addition to earning gold on FIBA and Pan American Games stages.

Safe to say she's excited about the honor:

It doesn't get any better than this. My first hero was 'Dr. J' and my basketball hero is Michael Jordan. This all started with the boys in Cairo letting a girl play with them and now this girl is being inducted into a hall of fame alongside the greatest men's players of all time.

She played for the ABL's Atlanta Glory in her pro career before giving in and joining the WNBA at age 38 despite concerns about the salary she'd have to accept.
