Josh Smith Confirms That Knee Injury Is Not Serious

The Atlanta Hawks television crew interviewed Josh Smith, who was sporting a snazzy suit, after the first timeout of the second quarter of Atlanta's game against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

Let's just say that Hawks fans can breathe a little bit easier. Smith's right is swollen, but he was held out of the game out of a modicum of caution.

"(I'm) just (resting) my leg and (getting) ready and geared up for the playoffs," Smith told SportSouth's Jerome Jurenovich. "It's not something that's too serious. It's more preserving my leg than anything."

Atlanta doesn't really need Smoove too much tonight. The energy is there -- especially on defense -- against a struggling Spurs team that has lost six of their last seven games.

Move over Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders, Smoove, too, has the pom-poms out for Atlanta's basketball team in this one.

"The energy (is impressive)," Smith said. "They went in and played defense. They're matching their physicality. They're doing everything to win the game. They're helping each other."

The Hawks are taking it to the Spurs right now and lead 37-31 with 5:47 left in the second quarter.
