Cris Carter Thinks Nnamdi Asomugha Should Sign With Atlanta

On NFL Live, an ESPN program, analyst Cris Carter thinks that the Atlanta Falcons would be the best fit for free-agent corner Nnamdi Asomugha. This is a big statement, because if it were to happen it would create all sorts of problems on the depth chart.

I look for the Atlanta Falcons. They traded most of their draft picks to move up in the draft because they had a player they targeted in Julio Jones. Now they need to address their defensive needs, especially their secondary. He [Asomugha] would give them the ability to play zone coverage and man, which most teams don't have because they don't have versatility at the corner-back spot.

While Carter makes a great point that having versatility opens up the playbook defensively, I still have no idea how this would go down with Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes. The depth chart would be messed up with Grimes most likely being demoted to the nickel spot which would upset him a great deal because he's been terrific at intercepting passes.

Demote Robinson? Then you've upsetted your big, free-agent signing from a year before, limiting his playing time. This would never happen unless Brent Grimes left the football team. I don't see that happening any time soon because just recently he was training with Matt Ryan and the guys at a local high school.

Carter had more to say though:

The Philadelphia's and Atlanta's, I think because he's been in Oakland and hasn't played on that high level like were used to seeing great players. I think he wants that stage.

The Falcons have more pressing issues, mainly at the Defensive End position. Atlanta has been linked to Ray Edwards and Charles Johnson two highly sought after, potential free-agents.

Here is the video, for those who haven't seen it.
