Preakness Stakes 2011 Contenders: Mucho Macho Man, The Horse Of Pomp And Circumstance

We already examined 2011 Preakness Stakes contender Mucho Macho Man's Atlanta bona fides in the run-up to the Kentucky Derby. I won't be the first to suggest this by any means, but there would be no greater honor for the departed "Macho Man" Randy Savage than for this horse to win the last sporting event in the history of the world.*

Yes, the Preakness' post time is scheduled for 6:19 pm ET, but it's not like that 6 pm ET (wait, is it ET?) global earthquake is going to destroy everything IMMEDIATELY, right?

Looking at the rest of the Preakness field's odds, Mucho Macho Man is expected to again show, though as of this writing he's nipping on Dialed In's heels. Most picks and predictions have Animal Kingdom winning, followed by Dialed In, but MMM is about the only other horse I've seen given a chance to take home the Black-eyed Susans.

Do not disqualify this horse, Preakness officials, if he's forced to deploy his terrifying horse elbows. His uniform's coral reef of tassels will not slow him down today.

* Not joking at all -- this horse winning this event would be awesome.

The 2011 Kentucky Derby post time is at 6:24 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, May 7th and SB Nation has everything you need to prepare for it - current Derby odds, contender profiles, field updates and more. You can find all of that and more at our 2011 Kentucky Derby StoryStream. Also, our horse racing blog And Down The Stretch They Come has two must-read resources for Derby fans: A Beginner's Guide To Following Horse Racing and a glossary of horse racing terms
