Ryan Buchter Traded To Braves For Rodrigo Lopez

The Atlanta Braves today acquired left handed pitcher Ryan Buchter from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for 35 year old Rodrigo Lopez. Buchter began the season in AA with the Tennessee Smokies where he struggled mightily posting a 6.55 ERA in 11 innings pitched. Buchter was then demoted to Chicago's High A club in Daytona where he has pitched 10.1 innings without allowing a run. He will be assigned to the Braves' High A club in Lynchburg.

Lopez was signed as a free agent by the Braves during spring training as depth for the rotation. The 35 year old right handed pitcher was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett where he was 6-1 with a 2.59 ERA. Lopez will join the Cubs pitching staff at the big league level.

Ryan Buchter was originally drafted in the 33rd round of the 2005 draft by the Washington Nationals. He was traded to the Cubs in 2008 and has amassed a 20-7 career record in 212 minor league innings.
