2011 SoCon Baseball Championship: Georgia Southern Wins, Earns Automatic NCAA Bid

The Georgia Southern Eagles took a grueling 1-0 victory from the Samford Bulldogs in the 2011 Southern Conference baseball tournament championship, ensuring them of an appearance in the NCAA championship field. The Eagles finish the season just 35-24, but like their 2010 football counterparts got hot when it counted, banging out two of three against the Charleston Cougars during the SoCon tourney.

With the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets already locking up a regional hosting bid and the Georgia Bulldogs likely to join them, college baseball's postseason is becoming sufficiently Peach State all over.

The lone run was scored by Scooter Williams, who advanced to third on a throwing error after stealing second, then achieved the decisive run on a wild pitch. Pitcher Chris Beck turned in a complete game, allowing just three hits.
