Mark Fox added his fifth signee to the 2011 class for Georgia on Monday as John Cannon out of Mountain Heritage high school in Burnsville North Carolina signed on to play for the Bulldogs next season. Cannon is a 6-foot-10 center who weighs in at 225 pounds. Cannon averaged 21.9 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 6.5 blocks per game. Cannon helped lead Mountain Heritage to the semifinals of the North Carolina Class AA state tournament.
Cannon also had an offer from Northwestern as well as being a preferred walk-on at North Carolina. With the losses of Chris Barnes and Jeremy Price to graduation combined with Trey Thompkins entering the NBA draft, Georgia is in a dire need to replenish its front court. That has been a priority during this recruiting period as in addition to Cannon, Fox has signed three other post players to help fill the void. Those players include Nemana Djurisic, Tim Dixon, and junior college 7-footer John Florveus. The marquee recruit of the class is McDonald's All-American Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who is a guard.
