Christian Bethancourt, Rome Braves: Atlanta Braves Prospect Of The Day

Christian Bethancourt, a 19-year old catcher out of Panama who is widely regarded as the top catching prospect in the Braves' Minor League system, is Saturday's Prospect of the Day.

Bethancourt roped out two more hits on Saturday night which now gives him five straight games of two base hits. In his last ten games, the catcher has seven doubles, a homer, six RBIs and an incredible slash line of .372/.413/.605. For a player who struggled as an 18-year old in A-Ball, Bethancourt is having a big comeback year and is establishing himself as one of the more promising catching prospects in the Minor Leagues.

Armed with a rocket arm behind the plate, Bethancourt completely shuts down the opposition on the base paths. Teams just don't run on him anymore. While his blocking behind the plate and ability to handle a pitching staff needs improvement (as they do for just about every 19-year old catcher in the Minors), he's shown a lot of improvement since coming to America and has the coaching staff in place to help him get to the next level.

Be sure to check out previous Prospects of the Day and stay tuned to SB Nation Atlanta for further Braves Minor League coverage.
