Brian Oliver of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will become the second Brian Oliver to leave the program, with the school announcing Thursday that the rising junior plans to transfer elsewhere. Here's new head coach Brian Gregory on the departure of one of the team's few returning top players:
We are very appreciative of the two years Brian gave Georgia Tech and this basketball program. Brian is a talented young man and will do well, athletically as well as academically, wherever he lands. We wish him nothing but the best.
Oliver finished the 2010-11 season third on the team in points, having scored 10.5 per game, most of them off the bench. With Iman Shumpert leaving for the NBA Draft and Maurice Miller leaving due to natural causes, that leaves only Glen Rice Jr. and Mfon Udofia among last year's top-five scorers. Oliver averaged 28 minutes per night, also throwing in 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Keep an eye on northeastern schools as potential destinations, since Oliver hails from New Jersey.
