The 2011 NCAA baseball tournament's list of regionals includes a stop in our fair city, which was supposed to also include the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Southern Eagles, but alas. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (40-19) fell short of earning a top-eight bid, but will get another chance at making it out of Russ Chandler Stadium in the postseason after falling at home each of the last two years.
If they can make it past the Mississippi St. Bulldogs (34-23), Southern Miss Golden Eagles (39-17) and Austin Peay Governors (33-22), they'll likely head to Gainesville to meet the Florida Gators or draw the Miami Hurricanes.
Tech's is a tough draw, as both MSU and USM rank in the top 25 in RPI. Austin Peay, the Ohio Valley Conference auto-bid, shouldn't pose too much of a challenge for any of the three bigger programs, with a losing non-conference record. Based on their talent and home park advantage, the Jackets should be able to advance, but we've been saying that for three years now.
