Mike Hamilton Resigning As Tennessee Athletic Director, According To Reports

Mike Hamilton will step down as Tennessee Volunteers athletic director at an 11 am ET press conference, according to Knoxville's NBC affiliate. The resignation is also being reported by the Knoxville News Sentinel's Michael Silence based on Facebook murmurings, with the KNS' Megan Boehnke confirming.

If true, Hamilton's resignation would not be contested by too many Vols fans. Under his watch the football program has seen an unpopular hire skate out of town with plenty left behind for the NCAA to investigate, while a beloved basketball coach was axed -- and the latter happened reportedly after Bruce Pearl had been told his job was safe. While Derek Dooley might be able to fjord his way through Lane Kiffin's mess, there's not a lot besides Pat Summitt's hoops program to be proud of in Knoxville these days.

Tennessee would likely have to appoint an interim AD in a hurry, as it is scheduled to stand before the NCAA Committee on Infractions shortly. Like, very, very shortly.
