Florida Gators softball has finished as the second-best team in the nation for the second time since 2009, falling in two games to the Arizona St. Sun Devils. Though Florida jumped out to a 1-0 lead in Game 2, Arizona State ran the score to 5-1 by the end of the third inning, leaving with a 7-2 victory.
Annie Lockwood contributed three hits, including a home run, as Dallas Escobedo pitched a four-hit complete game. Michelle Moultrie continued her ridiculous WCWS run, adding a homer.
Though Florida won't go down as the first SEC team to win the Women's College World Series, their presence as the third SEC team in the final round since 2007 shows how far the conference has come. Though the Pac-10 has won six national championships in a row, the SEC has certainly established itself as one of the best three conferences in the country -- both the SEC and Big 12 have arguments as to which is second.
