NFL Free Agency: Justin Blalock's Contract Shows Falcons Love Their Left Guard

Via D. Orlando Ledbetter, we now have a look at Atlanta Falcons LG Justin Blalock's new contract: six years for $38 million, with $16 million guaranteed. Wow!

That makes it the highest deal the Falcons have given this offseason in addition to the longest. It also includes a guaranteed figure just $200,000 shy of first round pick Julio Jones'. Did you expect Blalock's deal to look this much better than Tyson Clabo's? I sure didn't.

Kind of wonder if Blalock's status as the potential second Falcons offensive lineman to leave in free agency gave him significant bargaining power. His agent knew the team wasn't planning on filling two interior line positions this year, so. Either way, Thomas Dimitroff is smarter at football than you and me, this deal isn't outrageous by any means for a dependable starter and almost every free agency goal has now been achieved.
