PGA Championship Leaderboard, Round 1: Steve Stricker Leads Through Opening Day

The 2011 PGA Championship is just about through its first round at the Atlanta Athletic Club. And, if anyone had Steve Stricker as the golfer atop the leaderboard after one day of golfing, they should be quite happy as the veteran finished seven-under through the opening day.

Stricker struck seven birdies over the course of his first round at the Championship, five of which came on the back nine as he hit three consecutive one-unders on the first three holes of the latter half of the course. What might be more impressive, though, is the fact that Stricker did no worse than par on all 18 holes.

Stricker's closest combatant on the leaderboard is Jerry Kelly as the Wisconsin native put together a five-under 65 in his first round at the Johns Creek, Ga., golf course.

Since this is SB Nation Atlanta, it seems worth noting that Georgia resident Davis Love III is currently in a tie for fifth place -- a good spot through the first round for the St. Simon's Island resident. The rest of the golfers with Georgia ties haven't been particularly impressive as Bubba Watson's spot on the leaderboard in a tie for 96th place might indicate.

Stay tuned for more 2011 PGA Championship updates, and head to Waggle Room and SB Nation's golf hub for more on the PGA Tour.
