2012 Georgia Football Recruiting: Leonard Floyd Picks UGA Over Bama, Florida

The 2011 “Dream Team” wasn’t scared off by reports of Mark Richt’s shaky job situation in Athens, and neither is Leonard Floyd (6’6", 221), a four-star defensive end out of Dodge County High School who picked the Dawgs over Alabama, Florida and South Carolina, among others.

Floyd is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades at Dodge — he’s played defensive end, tight end and wide receiver for the Indians — but the Dawgs expect to plug him in at linebacker, where his speed and athleticism will be put to their best use. As a junior, he notched 81 tackles (14.5 of them for a loss) and tallied six sacks. He’ll need to add some weight to his tall frame to truly flourish in the SEC, and he needs to fine-tune his technique, but according to Dodge assistant coach Ricky Collins, he’s already building a rapport with Georgia’s coaches. “He fell in love with all those guys and then met Coach Richt and it went from there,” Collins told the AJC. “The whole coaching staff has been great to Leonard and that was important to him.”
