Brian McCann Injury Update: Braves Catcher Could Be Activated Soon

Brian McCann has been kept him out of the Atlanta Braves lineup ever since the catcher tweaked his back on July 26. The latest injury update for the Braves backstop looks promising, though, so a return might be not too far off into the future.

McCann will likely wait until Friday to start his rehabilitation assignment, according to the Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien, before potentially being activated toward the end of the weekend.

McCann is eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday per league rules, but it doesn't hurt to leave him off of the active roster until his back is fully recovered -- especially since oblique strains typically take up to a month of recovery time.

McCann's bat is pretty important to the Atlanta lineup, too, as David Ross is hitting just .234 on the season. Luckily, it sounds like the starter will be back sooner rather than later so Ross will take his place back on the bench.
