Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Sanders Commings apparently doesn't believe in bulletin board material, because he gave the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide some on Monday.
The senior out of Augusta, Ga., said there isn't a better defense in the country than his Bulldogs, according to the AJC:
"I think we're the best defense in the country," senior cornerback Sanders Commings said. "I thought we were last year and we have 10 out of 11 or 12 players back who are part of the starting rotation. So there's no reason why we shouldn't be the top defense. Everybody on this defense thinks we are."
But the stats don't say so.
Georgia's overall defense is ranked 16th in the country. Alabama, on the other hand, has the No. 1 defense, statistically. The Bulldogs are averaging 17.7 points against this season, while Alabama has allowed, on average, just 9.3 points per game.
Alabama is also No. 1 in total defense, with just 233 yards allowed per game. Georgia is ranked 22nd.
The Crimson Tide are allowing just 77 rushing yards per game and 156 passing yards per game. Georgia's numbers are both higher than that. The Bulldogs are allowing 175 passing yards and 163 rushing yards per game.
No. 3 Georgia plays Alabama in the SEC Championship at 4 p.m. Saturday.
