Registration for Atlanta's 2012 AJC Peachtree Road Race on July 4 will begin on March 15 via a special online lottery, according to the event's official web site.

60,000 participants will be selected for the event, and applicants can log on to ajc.com/peachtree from 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012, to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012 for consideration. Registration fees are $35 per entrant, and as with last year's event, group application of up to 10 runners is accepted. For more information on registration, check out the details here.

The first Peachtree Road Race was held in 1970 with only 110 runners. According to its official web site, the AJC Peachtree Road Race is now the largest 10K running event in the world with 60,000 participants.
