Georgia Tech Football: Charles Kelly focused on the present

Interim defensive coordinator Charles Kelly is taking a measured approach to his new job.

With Al Groh out as defensive coordinator and the unit having surrendered more than 40 points in each of its last three games, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets' interim defensive coordinator, Charles Kelly, is faced with a difficult situation, but one that he says he will approach head-on.

Kelly told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that despite a unit ranked 89th nationally in scoring defense and 90th in total defense, he is taking a simple approach to his players and his schemes.

"The biggest thing we've tried to instill is, 'Hey, listen: What you do on Saturday are the habits that you develop during the week,'" Kelly told the AJC. "I'm going to do the job as hard as I can."

Kelly is also expected to tweak Groh's 3-4 defensive alignment to better suit the talent Georgia Tech has assembled. By instilling more high-speed drills and game tempo drills, Kelly will aim to strengthen the Yellow Jackets' offense moving forward.
