The Georgia Southern Eagles took over first place in the Southern Conference with a 17-9 win Saturday over the Wofford Terriers.
The Eagles (5-1, 4-1 SoCon) have won four straight after opening its conference schedule with a 23-21 loss to The Citadel in the second week of the season. Meanwhile, Wofford (5-1, 3-1 SoCon) lost its first game of the season and third straight to Georgia Southern, and is now tied with third-place Appalachian State (5-2, 3-1 SoCon) in conference play.
Samford (5-2, 3-2 SoCon) dropped to fifth in the conference with its 28-25 loss to the Mountaineers on Saturday, allowing Chattanooga (3-3, 2-1 SoCon) to leapfrog into fourth place with a 31-10 win over seventh-place Furman (2-5, 1-3 SoCon).
The Citadel (4-3, 3-2) sits in sixth place after getting back on the winning track Saturday with 45-31 victory over last-place Western Carolina (1-6, 0-5 SoCon).
Eighth-place Elon (2-4, 0-3 SoCon) is the only other winless team in conference play, having lost three straight since beginning the season 2-1.
