The Atlanta Hawks fall to 1-2 on the preseason after a 110-102 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies Sunday night. Atlanta led early but a poor third quarter defensively turned the tide. Memphis outscored Atlanta 33-20 in the third quarter to take control of the game and hang on for the victory.
Al Horford led Atlanta with 13 points in just under 26 minutes off the bench. Anthony Morrow had his best showing of the preseason finishing with 12 points. Kyle Korver added 11 points while Ivan Johnson and Louis Williams chipped in 10 points each.
After shooting over 50 percent in the first half, Atlanta sunk to 44 percent in the game. The Hawks were out rebounded 50-40. Atlanta did get to the free throw line often going 26-34 but couldn't overcome Memphis' strong showing from three-point range where they were 10-21.
Mike Conley led that long distance barrage finishing with a game-high 18 points and was 5-5 from beyond-the-arc. Marc Gasol added 17 points while Zach Randolph logged a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rudy Gay scored 13 points while Quincy Pondexter added 12 including a back breaking three after Atlanta had cut the deficit to just three points in the fourth quarter.
Atlanta will be back in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Indiana for an exhibition game with the Pacers.
