SoCon Football Standings 2012: Georgia Southern stays on top

Georgia Southern has maintained their lead in the Southern Conference.

The Georgia Southern Eagles remain in first place in the Southern Conference after a convincing victory over Furman on Saturday. The Eagles are now 5-1 in league play, but tied in the loss column with Wofford and Chattanooga.

Wofford kept pace with Georgia Southern with a key road win over Appalachian State. The Terriers scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the comeback win.

Chattanooga defeated Samford, fending off a late comeback to survive at home and move to 3-1 in league play. The Mocs have a chance to take down first-place Georgia Southern when they host the Eagles on Saturday.

Georgia Southern has already defeated Wofford this season, so a win would put Chattanooga in control of their own destiny for the conference title. Appalachian State's loss was important for the Mocs, as the Mountaineers dealt them their only league defeat this year.

Wofford will be hoping for a Chattanooga win on Saturday as they host Citadel.
