NASCAR At Talladega: Kurt Busch Crashes While Leading At Lap 99

Kurt Busch's last ride in the No. 51 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet is over. Busch ran out of fuel while leading at lap 99. Jamie McMurray could not avoid turning him off the second corner, and Busch went sliding hard into the inside wall. With safety crew members working on the car, Busch refired the car and pulled away, sending their equipment bag for a ride. NASCAR has parked Busch for the duration of the event as a result.

The caution flag was a break for Trevor Bayne, who had been off the lead lap after being ticketed for speeding down pit road during a previous cycle of stops. Bayne gets back on the lead lap, while early leader Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch remain a lap off the pace.

Marcos Ambrose has assumed the lead, with Casey Mears second, Jeff Burton third, Jeff Gordon fouth, and McMurray rounding out the top-five with 86 laps remaining.
