The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will try to win their third straight ACC game when they face North Carolina at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C., Saturday.
Tech (4-5, 3-3 ACC) has won two of three overall, sandwiching ACC victories against Boston College and Maryland around a non-conference defeat at the hands of BYU. During that three-game stretch, the Yellow Jackets' defense allowed 23.7 points per game, an improvement over the 46.0 points per game allowed over its previous three games, all losses.
While the defense has struggled at times, Georgia Tech's offense has been one of the ACC's best. The Yellow Jackets rank fourth in points (34.9) and yards (449.1) per game.
As potent as Georgia Tech is on offense, North Carolina (6-3, 3-2) is even better. The Tar Heels average 39.4 points and 487.8 yards per game. Bryn Renner's quarterback ranking of 141.9 and 18 passing touchdowns rank third in the conference. Giovani Bernard is the ACC's top running back, averaging 132.9 yards per game and 7.4 yards per carry. A sophomore, Bernard has 930 yards this season and can break the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight year this weekend.
