The Atlanta Falcons have lost the services of back-up tight end Tommy Gallarda for the season after the team placed him on injured reserve today. To fill Gallarda's spot on the roster, the Falcons signed tight end Andrew Szczerba and tight end Chase Coffman from the practice squad.
Gallarda had played in all nine of Atlanta's games this season before being injured Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Gallarda recorded one catch for seven yards this year. Gallarda was originally signed as a free agent by the Jacksonville Jaguars after the 2011 NFL Draft before being picked up by the Falcons in 2011 to be on the practice squad.
Coffman and Szczerba were both signed by the Falcons before the start of the season to the practice squad. The Falcons also signed wide receiver Tim Toone to the active roster today.
After recording their first loss of the season to the Saints on Sunday, the Falcons come home to face the struggling Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.
