Georgia State won its first game of the season Monday, as the Panthers defeated Monmouth, 62-49, at GSU Sports Arena in Atlanta. It was the first game of the sub-host round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, which Georgia State is hosting.
Devonta White led the Panthers (1-2) with 16 points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal. White was 5-of-11 from the floor, and he connected on two of his four three-point attempts. R.J. Hunter was the only other Georgia State player to score in double figures, as he chipped in 14 points. Hunter added five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Center James Vincent had a monster game defensively, compiling nine blocks to go with his five points and eight rebounds.
Andrew Nicholas led Monmouth (1-3), providing 10 points, four rebounds and a block. Ed Waite pulled down nine rebounds and contributed four points, two steals and one assist.
Next up for Georgia State is a Coaches vs. Cancer game against Tennessee State. The Panthers and Tigers are set to tip off on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
