The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Maryland Terrapins are not exactly lighting up the scoreboard early, but a one-yard touchdown run by Tevin Washington is the difference, as Georgia Tech leads 6-0. Tech put together a 12-play, 81-yard drive for the score. Kicker David Scully missed the extra point.
Shawn Petty, a freshman linebacker starting at quarterback for the Terps, predictably hasn't been great, and the Maryland offense has only 14 yards of total offense after 15 minutes. Petty's fumble late in the first quarter has given the Yellow Jackets the ball inside the Maryland 20-yard line as the quarter expired.
It looked like Maryland caught a break when they recovered a Jamal Golden fumble during a punt return near midfield. However, the offense just couldn't get anything going. Stefon Diggs has been quiet so far, and will need to make an impact for Maryland to have any chance.
Orwin Smith leads the Yellow Jackets with 50 rushing yards, followed by Robert Godhigh with 21 yards. Tevin Washington is 1-of-1 for five yards through the air, and has four yards on the ground so far.
