Larry Drew met with the media following the Hawks shootaround in Oklahoma City on Sunday and addressed Josh Smith's injury. Smith suffered the ankle injury sometime during Friday's loss to the Houston Rockets. He did however finish the game playing all 12 minutes of the fourth quarter and looked fine after the game.
Drew indicated that Smith woke up sore on Saturday and the team elected to leave him behind and try to get him ready to play on Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers.
"It was a little sore (Saturday)," Drew said. "I know he got it treated. We made the decision to leave him back and get it treated. Our focus was to get him ready for Wednesday's game."
Anthony Tolliver will start in place of Josh Smith on Sunday against the Thunder. The injury comes at an inopportune time for the Hawks who are still trying to acclimate many new faces this season. Smith finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds in Friday's loss against the Rockets.
