Georgia Tech Vs. North Carolina: Tevin Washington on the cusp of GT, ACC history

Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington is just a single rushing score away from tying the team and ACC records for most career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.

Washington has amassed 34 touchdowns on the ground in his tenure with the Rambling Wreck, just one off the mark of 35 set by former Yellow Jackets star Joshua Nesbitt. Ken Sugiura of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution sagely notes that both players have received a boost in their numbers from Tech coach Paul Johnson's spread-option attack, which favors the use of the quarterback in goal-line situations.

Georgia Tech is always a superb running offense, and this year is no different. Johnson's speedy scheme has allowed the Yellow Jackets to average a staggering 318.2 yards per game on the ground, the fourth-highest total in the country.

Washington will be looking to tie and perhaps break the touchdowns mark Saturday against the North Carolina Tar Heels as Georgia Tech tries to build on a 33-13 drubbing of Maryland last week. The Tar Heels will be potent foes, though; they have allowed just three yards per carry in 2012, which is the 17th-lowest amount nationwide.
