Georgia and Alabama are scoreless at the end of the first quarter in what looks like a heavyweight title fight early on with both teams feeling the other out. The Bulldogs missed on the first scoring opportunity after Jarvis Jones forced a fumble by A.J. McCarron at midfield. However, the Georgia drive stalled and Marshall Morgan's 51-yard field goal attempt went wide right.
It was the Bulldogs' turn to catch a break on the next drive. After the Bulldogs defense forced a 4th and 1, Alabama lined up for what looked like a punt attempt but was instead a fake. However, just as the up man took the snap the play was whistled dead for a delay of game.
A long completion from Aaron Murray to Tavarres King has the Bulldogs within field goal range again as the quarter closed. Murray is 6-10 for 56 yards in the opening quarter while Todd Gurley rushed six times for 32 yards. McCarron is 5-8 for 46 yards while Eddie Lacy has three carries for 21 yards.
