The Associated Press named Georgia Bulldogs junior linebacker Jarvis Jones SEC Defensive Player of the Year Monday, two days after the Bulldogs lost to Alabama in a thrilling SEC Championship Game.

Jones had six tackles and two sacks against Alabama, and he has compiled 22.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, 19 quarterback hurries, seven forced fumbles and 77 tackles in 11 games this year for the Bulldogs (11-2, 7-1 SEC). Jones's best performance came in Georgia's 17-9 victory over Florida. Against the Gators, he totaled 4.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and 13 tackles.

In addition to Jones, Georgia running back Todd Gurley was named to the All-SEC first team by the AP. Linebacker Alec Ogletree, defensive tackle John Jenkins and safety Bacarri Rambo were named to the second team. Quarterback Aaron Murray was listed as honorable mention.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the Capital One Bowl against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Georgia and Nebraska will kick off from Orlando's Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day 2013 at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPN.
