Coming off a 23-13 Thursday-night victory over the arch-rival New Orleans Saints in Week 13, the Atlanta Falcons will try to win their fourth game in a row when they travel to Carolina to take on the reeling Panthers Sunday.
With the win over the Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday, the Falcons clinched their second NFC South title in three years. At 11-1, Atlanta is tied with the Houston Texans for the best record in the NFL, and the Falcons' only loss came in their previous matchup against the Saints on Nov. 11.
The Panthers are struggling in quarterback Cam Newton's second season, sitting at 3-9 and coming off a loss to the 2-10 Kansas City Chiefs. After winning the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year last season, Newton has come back to Earth in 2012. He has thrown for 2,933 yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Newton has 524 yards and six touchdowns on the ground, and he has lost three fumbles.
