Ernie Els has been a staple of the PGA tour's elite since the mid-1990s. However, his inconsistent tournament play and lack of success could put him out of the PGA's biggest tournament for the first time in 18 years.
Els will miss The Masters tournament coming up unless the South African can win the Shell Houston open this weekend. Currently, Els is tied for 34th place at five-under. If Els misses out on the Masters, it will be the first time he's done so sine 1994.
Elis is a two-time runner-up at The Masters, finishing second in 2000 and 2004. Els has won three majors in his career, winning The U.S. Open twice (1994, 1997) and The British Open back in 2002. Els has won 64 tournaments in his career, 18 of them coming on the PGA tour.
