2012 College Baseball: Georgia Falls 6-3 In Finale, Lose Series 2-1

The Georgia Bulldogs dropped a 6-3 decision in the series finale against the top-ranked Florida Gators. The loss gives Florida a 2-1 series win and drops the Bulldogs to 8-10 in SEC Conference play.

Florida took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a home run by catcher Mike Zunino. The Bulldogs struck back in the fourth when Levi Hyams doubled home Brett DeLoach to tie the score at 1-1. Georgia took the lead later in the inning when Colby May scored Hyams with a double of his own to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage. However, Georgia didn't hold the lead long as Daniel Pigott doubled home Brian Johnson in the bottom half of the fourth to tie the score at 2-2.

The Bulldogs went back in front briefly 3-2 as Brandon Stephens two-out single plated Justin Bryan. Florida answered back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning with the big blow, a three-run homer, coming off the bat of Daniel Pigott.

Karsten Whitson earns the win for the Gators while Bryan Benzor gets tagged with the loss. Austin Maddox earns his 11th save of the season for Florida. Freshman Luke Crumley made his first start for the Bulldogs in the game and lasted three innings while allowing only the second inning homerun to Zunino.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they will take on rival Georgia Tech at Turner Field.
