Madden 2013 Cover Vote: Calvin Johnson Beats Cam Newton

The Madden fans have spoken. After over a month of voting on the Madden 2013 cover boy, it's been revealed that Calvin Johnson will grace the cover of the popular video game. Johnson beat out Cam Newton in the finals vote.

While Detroit Lions fans might be excited to see one of their own on the cover, they may also be holding their breath. Former Lions running back already fell victim to the Madden Curse, as he abruptly retired prior to training camp after being featured on the Madden 2000 cover.

Johnson is certainly deserving of the honor, though. After a monster 2011 in which Johnson hauled in 96 receptions, good for 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns, he was rewarded with the richest contract in NFL history.

Johnson also beat out Dwyane Bowe, Arian Foster, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Rodgers en route to his voting-tournament victory.

Now we'll see if Johnson can beat the Madden curse in 2012.
