2012 Masters Golf Tournament: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson Are The Favorites

The 2012 Masters is set to begin on Thursday and in the past it was always asked if one would take Tiger Woods or the field to win at Augusta. Well, Woods has struggled the past few years but he looks to be a contender after winning at Bay Hill two weeks ago.

However, Cameron Morfit who is a senior writer at GOLF magazine poses this question instead: Do you take the three-headed monster that is Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Woods, or the field?

The responses varied, but most felt that those three had a good chance at winning.

Adam Scott who finished second in 2011 believes that Woods has a great shot to win:

"I think certainly Tiger has got to be in the mix."

"He's playing well, and he's won four times here. He knows what he's doing. But you can say that about Phil, as well. There's too many guys. But someone can come up and surprise, and hopefully that's me."

Kevin Na sees the big three having the best shot to win, but does add the caveat that it really could be anyone:

"Those three have the best chance to win."

"You've got to hit it high and long around here, and they do. Does that mean they are the only ones who can win? No. I'm at a disadvantage, I'll be honest, but you've also got to chip and putt very well out here. Luke Donald did well here. Zach Johnson has won."

Even though Woods, McIlory and Mickelson are the favorites, one player that is under the radar that could make some noise is Robert Garrigus who is playing in his first Masters tournament. Garrigus has been playing Augusta this past week to get a feel for the course, and he is going with the field.
