The 2012 Masters will have its first official round of play on Thursday, but already there has been a huge shock that will impact the prestigious tournament at Augusta National.

According to Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post, Dustin Johnson has announced that he will be withdrawing from the Masters, citing injury.

Svrluga commented that Johnson's name did not appear on Tuesday's groupings sheet, so the PGA officials likely knew ahead of time that he would be unable to compete. The early word is that he tweaked his back prior to play opening.

Johnson had 30/1 odds to win the tournament before he announced he would be pulling out. He is currently the 39th-ranked golfer in the world.
