SEC Softball Tournament 2012: UGA Advances With 6-4 Win Over Kentucky

Georgia advances to the semifinals of the 2012 SEC Softball Tournament with a 6-4 win over the Kentucky Wildcats. The Bulldogs will take on top seeded Alabama on Friday.

The Lady Dogs improved to 41-14 on the season with the win and Erin Arevalo improved to 23-6 after allowing one run and four hits in 5.2 innings of work. Chanda Bell was tagged with the loss for Kentucky after surrendering six runs on four hits in just two innings of work.

Kristyn Sandberg went 1 for 2 at the plate with a homer and three RBIs for Georgia. Paige Wilson and Gracie Grouder finished with two hits each.

Georgia did all of its scoring in the game's first two innings. The Lady Dogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and then extended that to 6-0 with four more in the second with the big blow being Sandberg's homer. After getting a solo homer from Brittany Cervantes in the fourth, Kentucky scored three more times in the seventh before UGA finally stopped the rally.
