2012 ACC Softball Tournament: Virginia Tech Upsets Top Seed North Carolina

Virginia Tech upsets top-seeded North Carolina 4-1 in the semifinals of the 2012 ACC Softball Tournament. The Hokies advance to the championship game where they will take on Georgia Tech.

Virginia Tech is no stranger to the title game having reached it in four of their eight seasons in the league. This win could have been the most unlikely. Jasmin Harrell held the high scoring Tar Heels offense to just four hits and just one unearned run while capturing her 29th win of the season. Lori Spingola takes the loss after allowing seven hits and three earned runs in a complete game seven innings.

Kylie McGoldrick and Kelsey Mericka had two hits apiece for the Hokies. Mericka also drove in two runs and had a double. Haleigh Dickey had two hits for Carolina and Amber Parrish drove in the Tar Heels' lone run on the evening.
