2012 College Baseball: Georgia Tech Wins Extra Inning Thriller Over Virginia

Georgia Tech's Zane Evans extra-inning heroics helped the Yellow Jackets avoid the sweep against No. 22 ranked Virginia on Sunday. The sophomore designated hitter hit a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to break the gam'es 4-4 tie and lead his team to a 5-4 victory at Davenport Field in Virginia. Evans also came into pitch, securing the game's final two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning.

The Yellow Jackets rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning, scoring two runs off of Virginia's closer, Justin Thompson. Georgia Tech moves into a tie for fourth place with Virginia Tech, both teams hold ACC records of 11-16.

Georgia Tech ends its regular season playing Mercer on the road on Tuesday and then hosting Miami for a three-game set on the weekend. Tuesday's non-conference game against Mercer is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time.
