The Conference Realignment season is once again upon us and the latest rumors involve the Big 12 and Florida State. While neither side has confirmed much of anything there seems to be enough interest that this story isn't likely to go away anytime soon.

Essentially when rumors like these begin schools go on the defensive and reaffirm their commitment to its current conference. Florida State did such with the ACC but if the moves of Texas A&M and Missouri have taught us anything it is that where there is smoke there is fire.

At the root of this seems to be some dissatisfaction with the ACC's new TV deal with ESPN. Board of Trustees chairman Andy Haggard who was not happy with the conference's decision to give up third-tier broadcasting rights for football while holding on to them for basketball. In Haggard's opinion that shows bias towards the Carolina schools and puts Florida State in a less than ideal position.

If the past is any indication then conference realignment may still have a ways to go before things stabilize. After losing two key members the Big 12 will no doubt be aggressive in pursuing replacements.
