Women's College World Series: North Carolina Advances To Final With 5-3 Win

North Carolina advances to the finals of the Athens Regional after a 5-3 win over Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon. The Tar Heels will take on Georgia Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.

Carolina jumped out to a quick lead scoring all five of their runs early and then had to hold on late. Coastal Carolina came back with two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to close to within 5-3 but couldn't get any closer.

Jordan Scarboro banged out three hits for the Tar Heels while Kelli Wheeler hit her 12th home run of the season. Amber Parrish added an RBI double for UNC.

Lori Spangola allowed seven hits and two earned runs as part of the complete game victory. She struck out four while walking just one.

North Carolina lost to Georgia 3-2 on Saturday and now must defeat the Bulldogs twice on Sunday to take the regional crown.
