ACC Baseball Tournament 2012: Miami Knocks Off UNC 5-3

The Miami Hurricanes bounced back with a 5-3 win on Thursday over North Carolina to even their record at 1-1 in pool play of the 2012 ACC Baseball Tournament.

Miami jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI ground out by Chantz Mack. North Carolina tied things back up in the third with a single run. The Hurricanes added single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 3-1 lead. The Tar Heels tied things up in the seventh with a two run home run off the bat of Grayson Atwood. The lead would be short lived as Dale Carey hit a two run homer to put the Hurricanes back up by a score of 5-3.

Stephen Perez finished with two hits and scored three runs for Miami. Chaz Frank and Tommy Coyle added two hits each for North Carolina.

Stephen Ewing gets the win after pitching eight innings while allowing eight hits and two earned runs. AJ Salcines earns his seventh save of the season with an eventful inning of work. Kent Emanuel takes the loss after allowing four runs and six hits in seven innings.

UNC is off on Friday while Miami will take on Wake Forest as pool play continues.
