2012 Kentucky Derby: SB Nation's Matt Gardner Analyzes The Post Positions

The post position can be a major factor in how horses do in a given race.

With the 2012 Kentucky Derby post positions finally out, which horses are in the best position? In the video below, Matt Gardner of SB Nation horse racing blog And Down The Stretch They Come analyzes the 2012 spots and the pros and cons of each. Which horses ended up in a good draw? Which ones ended up in a bad draw?

According to Gardner, two of the favorites this year — Bodemeister and Union Rags — are in difficult starting positions at sixth and fourth, respectively.
