2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Georgia Tech Will Hold Back Buck Farmer

While Georgia Tech will open the NCAA Baseball Tournament on Friday with a game against College of Charleston, the Yellow Jackets will likely hold back ace Buck Farmer until the team plays Gainesville regional host Florida:

"If things work out the way I think they might work out, I think that we're going to need Buck to beat Florida," Hall told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Hall said the decision on when to pitch Farmer, a two-time All ACC pick with a 3.43 ERA and a 9-3 record this year, was debated heavily within the coaching staff.

By not using him immediately, they increase the chances they lose to Charleston on Friday and fall into the loser's bracket, which would put Georgia Tech one game from elimination.

But, by saving him until a possible match-up with No. 1 overall seed Florida, the Yellow Jackets increase their chances on their toughest competition in the four-team regional.
