2012 Peachtree Road Race Weather: Heat Wave Expected To Continue

Atlanta has been engulfed with a heat wave that saw temperatures reach the low 100s over the weekend. The heat wave is expected to last through Wednesday's running of the 2012 Peachtree Road Race. Temperatures aren't expected to reach triple digits but temperatures are still expected to climb into the upper 90s.

The early start times for the races should help combat the heat somewhat. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid 70s by the time that the wheelchair race gets underway at 6:45 a.m.

The 6.2 mile race has become an important event in Atlanta culture. Approximately 60,000 professional and amateur runners will take part in the event with an expected 150,000 spectators expected to line the entire course from start to finish. With that many people on hand, safety precautions due to the heat will become even more important.
