The 2012 BB&T Atlanta Open gets underway on Monday with first round matches and two-time champ Mardy Fish opens defense of his 2011 title. Fish is the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament as former University of Georgia product John Isner is the top seed. Fish and Isner lead a field that also includes Andy Roddick and rising Japanese star Kei Nishikori.
The event will be held at Atlantic Station in Atlanta and this is the 25th year Atlanta has been a stop for the ATP tour. There are four American born players in the field including John Isner and Andy Roddick that will be playing in the Olympics in a couple of weeks.
Qualifying rounds began over the weekend and Round 1 action will get underway on Monday and continue into Tuesday. Round 2 will continue on Wednesday and Thursday with quarterfinal action getting underway on Friday. Television coverage will also begin on Friday with ESPN2 starting its broadcast at 4 p.m. ESPN2 will also carry the semifinal and championship matches on Saturday and Sunday.
